Authors life:
Kathryn Stockett was born on February 6th, 1969. Stockett, just like the characters in the book, was born and raised in good’ ol Jackson Mississippi USA. Stockett, after graduating from the university of Alabama, moved to New York and for 9 years of her life she offered her services as a marketing and publishing expert for many different magazines( “famousauthors.org” ). Stockett later relocated back to the south. Atlanta Georgia to be precise and after 5 years of hard work she finally released her first novel The Help. It was not easy at all for her to get the book published. Stockett was turned down by over 60 publishers before finally agent Susan Ramer, who the character Miss Stein is based on, took up the task of publishing the book(“famousauthors.org”). After the book was published Stockett went on to press the fact that she felt mortified that it took her 20 years to see the unjust treatment of blacks. As well as the sole reason for her writing the Help was for her to understand why she couldn't see through the duplicity of things in the south(“famousauthors.org”).

Stockett/skeeter comparison
While there are many similarities between the characters of the book and The author none can compare to the special bond between Miss Eugenia Phelan, aka “skeeter”, and Mrs. Stockett. In fact many could argue that the character skeeter is in fact based off of the author in her youth. For example Stockett growing up was especially close with her colored maid Demetrie(“famousauthors.org”). In the book skeeter also has a very close bond with her house maid Constantine. Both Stockett and Skeeter finished high school and graduated from colleges. After college both ladies had a strong desire to go into writing and publishing. In the book both skeeter and Stockett relocate to New York in pursuit of their writing dreams. We can also see in the book that skeeter has the same ambition as the author. Skeeter is intent on showing the world the black perspective on the struggles of living in the south. She writes her book in hope of changing the south’s racial discrimination more importantly change Jackson Mississippi in the 60’s. This ambition is similar to the author's in which the author wants her book to stir social change as well. All in all I am pretty positive about the similarities between skeeter and the author.
